A lot of door distributors will sell you a dropdown seal and let you think you’ve suddenly got a 32dB or 51dB door and it simply isn’t that simple!
No door manufacturer would ever tell you or sell you just that because it’s a whole lot more complicated.
It’s yet again another important example of the different level of quality, standard and service you get between manufacturers and pure distributors.
The dropdown seal is an important part, but its only one part that needs to be taken into consideration. Sound doesn’t just go the bottom of the door and say to itself ill go through here! It goes though any gap, so every gap needs to be sealed.
And to achieve good results the door core itself needs to be of a certain standard.
And the seals need to be of a certain type and arrangement.
And strictly speaking even the gap behind the architrave, the bit between the wall and the frame should be filled up.
In truth there’s a whole lot more than that tiny list but you probably get the point.
The base package we offer is 32dB, which is perfect for residential applications where you want to block out unwanted noises to improve for example a home cinema room.
- So First And Foremost, All Of Our Door Cores Are Of A Higher Density Material Which Make Them Appropriate To Be Turned Into Acoustic Doors.
- We Include A Drop Seal That Gets Inserted Into The Door Core Which Drops Down When Closed Against The Frame.
- We Supply A Completely Different Set Of Seals That Go Around The Edges Of The Door.
- And Another Seal That Goes Against The Doorstop.
There are some exceptions, for example some glazed doors will need a change of glass type and we stipulate that within our door designs.
This service is a fully factory machined service, we make changes to the size and type of the door edge seals and machine and fit the drop seal with its cover plate.
So when you ask us for 32db you will actually get 32db!
